A Promise Yet to Fulfill

4 Mar

“R”, a friend, had just given birth to her second child a few days ago.

She was one of the lucky few who was a stay-at-home mom during her firstborn’s first years.  Her husband was living and working in Singapore during that time though.  She and her daughter stayed with her parents in Nueva Ecija, and raised her child without him.

They have since reunited and are now living together in Singapore.  We saw them last April 2011 when they took a vacation in Manila.  We arranged a meeting and spent a few hours, together with our other friend “M”, at Manila Ocean Park.

I remember a “pact” we made in 2006.

“R”, “M”, another friend “J” and I, in a spur-of-the-moment decision, booked flights for a 7-day vacation to Singapore.  We were working in the same company and still single at that time.  When we were in Sentosa, we promised to each other that when we have our own families, we would all travel back together with them to Singapore.

We will fulfill that promise someday, guys.  I miss you.
